Routine Foot Treatments
At the initial appointment the clients details are taken, medical history, details of any medications and history of foot or leg problems are discussed. During the treatment, all your nails will be cut, thinned down if required, any excess hard skin/callous will be painlessly removed, if there are any corns these too will be painlessly removed, the feet will then get cream to moisturise.
Ingrowing Toe Nails
This can be a very sore condition which occurs when the nail dig's into and grows into the skin, it can cause the area to become red, swollen, it may weep, bleed or even pus maybe present. It can be caused by a variety of reasons, incorrect nail cutting, trauma, tight hosiery or footwear or it can also just be due to the shape of your actual nail, in which case it can sometimes run in the family. The treatment involves removing the offending piece of nail and normally a single treatment can be enough. If it is very painful and local anaesthetic can be given in the toe prior. If it doesn't resolve possible nail surgery may be required.
Nail Surgery
Nail surgery will be required if the conservative management of problematic nail is no longer working. A local anaesthetic is administered into the toe and part or all of the nail is removed and the nail bed is treated to ensure that the removal is permanent. This is followed up 2 days later, 2 weeks later and the 4 weeks later. Dressings and written post- operative care will be provided. Note that healing can take between 8-12 weeks.
